I'm sorry but I'm just thinking of the right words to say
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be
But if you wait around a while I'll make you fall for me
I promise, I promise you I will

I think it's a good thing my computer arrived and I'm going home this weekend. My laptop died Sunday night, as its boot tree appears to be corrupted and so now the computer will not start up. All the data is there -- it just can't start up to access the data.
I am so tired of computers right now.
So I'm going home tomorrow after my midterm, and I get to:
a. Reinstall Panther onto my laptop
b. Setup and configure my new computer
c. Install Office, Rome TW, Starcraft and Brood War, Firefox, Photoshop, Warcraft III and The Frozen Throne, and about half a dozen other programs
d. Make sure everything works
e. Run a ridiculously graphics-intensive program to laugh at how amazing the system is
f. Gloat to friends
Point f is very important, I think.

In your times of trouble, when you're wandering through the night
And the path you tread just seems to disappear
Together we will walk the road until we find a light
That will banish back to darkness all our fear
I'll be standing by your side
When you simply need a guide
There at every high and every low
I'll cheer you on when you're the best
Help you stand through all the rest
I'll be there and I will never let you go
And when you're standing tall and you can rise above the sky
When every problem seems like it's not there
I'll be there to share your laughter and together we will fly
Through the clouds and dancing in the air
I'll be standing by your side
When you simply need a guide
There at every high and every low
I'll cheer you on when you're the best
Help you stand through all the rest
I'll be there and I will never let you go
Friendship doesn't mean that I can simply walk away
Space is needed, but I'm always here for you
And if you're ever down, you know I'm always there
I'm always there ...
It's a strange sensation when we wander through the days
Lightening each other's heavy load
As we walk the road of life, forging on our future ways
Well, together we'll explore this winding road
And you've been standing by my side
When I couldn't find a guide
You've been here at every high and every low
You cheer me on when I'm the best
You help me stand through all the rest
You've been there and you have never let me go
And I'll be standing by your side
When you simply need a guide
There at every high and every low
I'll cheer you on when you're the best
Help you stand through all the rest
I'll be there, this I swear
For you, my friend, I'll always care
I'll be there and I will never let you go

Digging in for another day
Carrying on in my own way
But you know me, I live and die nearly every day
Insanity is having its way with me
These days in the gallows
I'm kneeling at the block with my neck outstretched
And I should have stayed in the shallows
But you know me, I'm in too deep
And I'm waiting for another me
One that can change the pain of yesterday
Carry me to another day
And I'm waiting for another me
One in between the burn and the lessons learned
'cause being me ain't no way to be
Talking law down at Murphy's Bar
Unhappy hour on my own last
Calling me out on my living lie
Looking for luck I can't even buy
And I'm waiting for another me
One that can change the pain of yesterday
Carry me to another day
And I'm waiting for another me
One in between the burn and the lessons learned
'cause being me ain't no way to be
Give me one chance at recovering what I've lost
And give me one shot at redemption at any cost
Repair my way before it breaks me
Don't break me
Hello, do you notice me
Can't you see my walls are crumbling down
So tired of the same old same
Coming to, coming back around
I'm waiting for another me
One that can change the pain of yesterday
Carry me to another day
And I'm waiting for another me
One in between the burn and the lessons learned
'cause being me ain't no way for me to be
I'm waiting for another me
One that can change the pain of yesterday
Carry me to another day
And I'm waiting for another me
One in between the burn and the lessons learned
'cause being me ain't no way to be

Exactly two weeks after the estimated shipping date, Alienware has informed me that my new computer has shipped and should arrive on Tuesday.
Whee.

On Leaks |
11:39 AM, Wednesday, September 22, 2004 |
At roughly 10:40 this morning, I realize my ceiling is leaking and has been for some time. Now, "leaking" is really an understatement, "raining" would be more like it.
Curiously enough, outside it's picture-perfect.
At any rate, I pull some towels up and try to contain this leak. For the next ten minutes, I pull stuff out of my closet and set up the two garbage cans in the room to catch the water coming from the light and smoke detector. I also put towels around the closet to try and prevent it from spreading to my computer -- the closet is right next to my desk, which is where I have a fridge, printer, computer, monitor, iPod, minifan, speakers ... most of my electrical equipment, really.
Then the fire alarm goes off right before I can call Maintenance.
Wonderful, no?
So outside I'm talking with people, and it hits me: "You know ... it's probably the smoke detector in my room that set it off. I bet you the water coming through it shorted it out." That's Clue #1.
The fire alarm finally gets shut off, and we go back to our rooms. The leak is ... well, much less obvious now. It's only coming from the light and smoke detector. However, the floor near the closet is soaked.
I finally get to call up Maintenance, and she says, "Yeah, major leak, right? We know. It's already been called in and the Quad Director was supposed to take a look at it." That's Clue #2.
Then my R.A. comes in (the door is open at this point and I'm talking with Ravi about the leak) and says, "Holy [expletive removed]." I ask him about the smoke detector, and he says, "Yeah, that's what the box downstairs says. I saw the room number on my wing and was like, 'crap.'" That's Clue #3, or really, that's the answer, because ... well, it was me.
Whee.
There is now hammering on the roof above my room. I hope they fix this. I like my stuff IN my closet, instead of piled up in my room. Between the stuff and the water-soaked carpet, about half my room is unusable.
Oh, and it's DIRTY water. Which means that three bath towels and two face towels are shot. I wonder if I can get Stony Brook to pay for them.
... haha. And maybe they'll come, apologize for the leak, and remit our tuition for the rest of the time we're here.

Huh |
9:04 PM, Friday, September 17, 2004 |
I can't figure out what day it is. I mean, I know it's Friday, and yet I don't.
Weird. I never had this problem before college.

Sigh ... |
8:44 PM, Sunday, September 05, 2004 |
My schedule is not going well. I have no motivation to go to half of these classes. And worse ... I'm sitting here on a Sunday night and I'm bored out of my mind.
Well ... maybe things will get better soon.
